Create custom brushes

I have read a tutorial that suggests and explains how to create custom brushes for rebelle. I have followed the instructions but the custom brushes don't appear or (when trying to load them) an error is thrown that the app is unable to read the brush file.

Perhaps the tutorial is obsolete and it won't apply to version 3?
