Being able to rotate brushes without changing pen grip/angle would be super helpful for flats/fans. Assignable keys for left/right along with a sensitivity setting. IMO, this would be more natural for those without rotation sensitive pens.

Experiments with Brush Creator Rotation set to [None] and manually changing the Shape Angle works really well. Shape Angle adjustment left/right via key taps would be Very Nice

Thank you, Bob, we will consider this! Should be useful! :)

Another possibility for angle control:

While set to Follow Trajectory, having a key that will lock the current rotation angle while held down would be a helpful way to work too.

I couldn't agree more. I use this function when painting in photoshop and i love to have manual rotation control and really wish it was possible in Rebelle. I see this post was made in 2021... any updates here? Has this feature been added yet? Thanks!

This is defintely needed ASAP to give us more control over brush rotation angle and sensitivity of rotation increments for the brush etc i.e. shortcut keys to rotate clockwise and anti-clockwise and a setting to set how many degrees the brush rotates per key press. This would help so many people who haven't got rotating pen capability on thier tablets and also those who have who are using detailed brush shapes and need absolute control.

Yep, just bought Rebelle 7, and pretty quickly found this to be the only major shortcoming. Since the slider for manual rotation already exists, it's just really clumsy to use quickly, this should be a simple thing to implement.

The only thing I have to add to this was I just bought my first tablet and when I was researching tablets, I discovered that there's virtually no tablet compatibility at all for brush rotation. As far as I can tell, the only tablet pen ever manufacturered that supports brush rotation was the wacom art pen, which seems to be out of stock on their site for quite some time so they may have stopped making it? I just find it hilarious that there is software that supports brush rotation, but virtually no tablets/pens that actually do.

The ability to freeze the orientation of the brush with a keybind would be incredible useful

LemurianPhoenix, from what I gathered, when a pen supports tilt, it doesn't merely measure the absolute angle, it also knows the direction of the tilt, which then determines the brush rotation angle. So, tilt gives you two degrees of freedom: the strength of the effect in the amount of angle, and the rotation in its direction. For most purposes, this is better than controlling rotation by physically rotating the pen, so you can understand why everyone decided to go with tilt. However, there is a problem: Some of those angles are really awkward to actually hold the pen in. But this is also another reason to implement the direct control of the rotation offset from a custom shortcut even if you have such a pen. You can offset the angle in such a way that those angles become comfortable. Then set back to 0 degrees when you stop working in those angles.

I fully admit that I don't really know much of how that stuff works, but once I realized that support for rotation is almost non-existant as far a the hardware goes, I stopped worrying about it. I got a medium xenselabs tablet since that was one of the ones recommended by Escape Motions and it's actually the only brand I've seen that explicitely states that it supports Escape Motion software on their product page. It's got tilt support, so hopefully that's all I need to worry about. I'm not even sure yet how much tilt will benefit my work because it's certainly something I never had when working with a mouse. but it's going to be fun experimenting with things.

Well, try choosing a brush (or changing an existing one's settings in brush creator) where rotation mode is set to "tilt" and the shape is rectangular (wide but short). Then draw one stroke where your pen is tilted in the forward-backward direction, and another where it is tilted sideways, but both times the angle between the tablet and the pen is the same. If the one stroke is wide and the other is narrow, then your pen is doing everything that rotation pen would be doing (and more), and the only problem is how awkward it is physically to tilt the pen in certain angles.

Which, as I pointed out, WOULD be solved with an offset shortcut from the keyboard.

I would love it if I could use the wheel on my XPpen wireless shortcut remote to control the rotation of the brush. Dealing with flat brushes is one of my only gripes I have with this software so far (flat brushes are what I use almost exclusively with real paints).

If there is a way to do this already - I would love to hear.

Cheers

Hey Veronika et al, it's been several years and I am still desperate for this functionality in Rebelle. I'm using Rebelle 7.2.0 and I really don't understand why the developers can't simply map brush rotation to the arrow keys on the keyboard. Can you please push this feature?? I'm not the only one desperate for it.

-Christopher.

I would like brush rotaion also. I was thinking a dockable/undockable 360 like interface like a clock or dial you simply touch the angle you want.

Woo Hoo!! With Latest update Rebelle 7.2.1 this feature is finally there! Thank you to the developers!

Ok. The newly implemented brush rotation via keyboard shortcuts is great. Thanks for that. Now, to already suggest an improvement. Lol. When using the keyboard shortcuts you can't see what the actual angle is visually until you start drawing. At least when I have tried it I can't tell what actual angle I am at until I start putting pressure on the brush and drawing. If there could be an outline of the brush angle ..while pressing the keyboard shortcut so you can see where I am at angle wise that would be great.

And I already found a way. That is to hold brush outside canvas area and press down on pen while using keyboard shortcut for rotation to show what angle the brush is at. Still maybe this could be tweaked.

This has been implemented to Rebelle 7 (from version 7.2.1)!

Indeed. Its very useful, specially for the people like me who like flat brushes. I set one of the Toubos wheels to rotate the brush, its amazing. Before that, i was hesitant to acquire any automated brush rotation stylus (Wacom Art Pen, Appen Pencil Pro). But after that Rebelle feature i'm very happy.
