Let me start off by saying that I understand there is the blending button that can be pushed to go into blending mode. That is not what I want. How can I modify an Acrylic brush so that I paint a red color, then using the same brush I change the color to blue and the blue brush will pick up the red below it as I paint? I have the Smudge box checked and that does not make any difference. Is blending while painting dependent on another setting other than having the Smudge box checked? Thanks for your help!

Do you mean something vaguely like this? It is basically four lines. I started with blue, then just below, not touching to start with, added pink and then just touched the blue so it mixed the colours, if it got too blue I would separate them again to get the pink back. Then I did the same with a red and then yellow. Experiment with pressure, loading and water to get the results you want. If necessary you can use the eraser to get rid of any unblended colours. Thanks for the reply Kerioak! I guess that is sort of what I am talking about. I am looking for a blending action similar to what an oil brush will do more so than acrylic? I will try messing around with those three settings. My intent is to use these settings at the "block-in-stage" of my paintings where I went to set the hues and values that gently mix together to create unexpected colors. I will give that a try and will report back. Thanks! Robert

I think you will also need to use the "dirty brush" option to get the blending you want. I don't use oils, only acrylic and pastels so am experimenting mostly with those and occasionally using the air brush which seems to do larger areas well and watercolour. There are too many options to experiment with and not enough spare hours in the day to play.

LOL WyrmHead! We are showing our age if we both know who those guys are. Dinosaur rock stars! RB's reunion of Rainbow last year was a little sad to watch. Sometimes, it is just better to fade away and let the original music speak for itself. Thanks for the derailment! I was just listening to DP yesterday as I was painting. Good times.
