Is there a way to select what's in a layer?

It seems like this feature would be extremely useful. I'm talking about how in photoshop you can hit ctrl+click a layer and it will select only the paint in that layer. I've been trying to find this feauture as it seems like it should be included with Rebelle. Does this feature exist? I'm tired of taking so much time to hand select what I want for simple shading. What would take me 20 seconds to do in photoshop can take me 5+ minutes to do in Rebelle.

Hello @jmher55, thanks for the idea. We will consider this feature for future versions of Rebelle. In the meantime you can try the "Lock Transparency" feature that will lock all transparent pixels of the layer and enable you to paint on the pixels with opacity: Or you can use the Magic wand selection with the "Use Alpha" enabled that works on a similar principle but in addition will select the content of the layer: The advantage of using the magic wand is that you can do the shading on a separate layer. Hope this helps!

Hi I also feel the need to have an option, in the transform tool maybe, to select the first layer with pixel under mouse when we click

You can already select painted areas on a specific layer by holding ctrl and touching the thumbnail(does work when over the layer title) in the layers palette. The cursor does change to a lasso like tool when you are hovering over the thumbnail layers holding ctrl. Note to devs: I also did not know this for the longest time either. I only discovered it because of post that a user made about issues a couple versions back. I also think adding it to the right-click layers menu would help.
