Rebelle 7 Pro. noted several bugs with oil brushes (as example usiong "flat" brush):

for simplicity of reprodusing this bugs you can use this properties: canvas "CA08",  A4 300dpi, use mouse,

brush: oils & acrylics -> "flat".

size, loading, oiliness pressure, length - all properies set to 40.

mode :Paint&Mix

NanoPixel: on

First Bug

1. Make some several stroke until "paint" will go off from "brush" - you will have pretty short stroke of paint.

2. Lower brush loading to less than 30 - like 25 and try make stroke again - you will se what now paint doesn't end and stroke can go endlessly.

Same probleme with "Paint & Blend" mode.

Second Bug

Also Oil brsuhes (maybe other too) now blend more aggressively - in comparison too Rebelle 6 Pro -

1. Paint&Mix mode, return brush settings to all 40 and make stroke, without release of button (using mouse) - you can smudge fresh paint almost back too just clear canvas texture. Here was no such behaviour in Rebelle 6 - it was more realistic and delicate smudging of paint without erasing it.

Third Bug

1. Return brush setting to all 40, but length 100 for faster painting

2. Zoom close to canvas and make strokes until you fully cover some little part of canvas - you should start see under paint fake canvas texture (intercrossing fibers) which is used for nanopixel for canvas type background "papers" - multiplying with it on close zooming to fake details, but in Rebelle 6 Pro you could start to see it only in full close up zoom, and in Rebelle 7 Pro it is much more obvious effect even on some distance off canvas, which completely destroys "painting over canvas" effect and interfere in your work.

Hi @bewitched - I'm unable to reproduce your "First Bug", neither with pen nor with mouse.

> "Second Bug": Well, brush behaviour and 'feel' are very subjective things in general. In one of the blog posts they are talking about changes regarding the smudging capabilities. Also, 'Flat' brush from R6 is not the same as 'Flat' from R7 - settings are different. There's no bug here imho, just intentional changes. If you don't like them, I'm sure you can find settings to compensate, e.g. adjust the curves for Paint+Mix or Paint+Blend.

> "Third Bug": With such a low loading setting, I'd expect some canvas texture to show through, no? If you want to cover the canvas completely, you need to raise loading and impasto. You can also lower 'Paint Texture' in 'Visual Settings' panel in order to reduce or completey remove it. Personally I find the transition when zooming in quite realistic - though I might have misunderstood your issue.

@dreamkeeper,

1. if you follow exactly with as described you will be able to reproduce it, but if you are not from development team, i doubt you need.

2. it is not about "subjective" it is about something gone wrong during development process and "broke" some features.

3. yes you misunderstood: 3rd bug discribed is not about loading, you can make it with 100 loading same way - its about ANOTHER nanopixel's fake fiber canvas texture starts to be seen through your selected background canvas when you covered it with paint.

Maybe a bit poorly explained, but #1 confirmed. Length breaks if Loading is >= 30. Happens with every brush I tried.Length breaks if loading is less than 31.

yeah dreamkeeper needs to quit pretending like they are part of the development team and using their lingo.

@cheriekitten - I'm not pretending anything, just trying to help. No need to attack me, OK?

Tried again, and now it happens here too. And yes, I DID follow the OP's instructions exactly before. Two things:

  • it doesn't happen every time 100% here
  • the only relevant setting is Loading while in Paint+Mix or Paint+Blend mode - the rest is just fluff. NanoPixel on or off doesn't matter, mouse or pen doesn't matter, etc.

@dreamkeeper im not attacking you but last time you acted like you were one of the staff members a lot of people's bug reports were no longer taken seriously and the staff stopped responding to them. you then told the staff what a great job they were doing basically ignoring us. let's not have it happen in 7 like it did in 6.

@cheriekitten - That's simply not true! In fact, on several occasiones I found the exact steps to reproduce a bug reported by others, so the developers could even begin working on them. Please don't tell such nonsense! We can ask the EM team whether or not they were ignoring any reports just because of me, yeah?

And I certainly never acted like I were a staff member. Just because I'm fairly active at times and try to help, doesn't mean I'm acting like a staff member. Also, as you may have noticed, staff people all have "Escape Motions" in their name - so it should be very clear who is staff and who isn't.

@dreamkeeper - I always appreciate your infos because you really dig in deep! There is no unreflected hooey and you go straight to the point – meaningful, maybe because of the german roots. ;-)

Cheers!

Hello everyone, thanks for reporting these issues and steps to reproduce them, it really helps us.

1. Here the crucial setting is Linear vs Non-linear Opacity setting found in the Brush Creator. With the new Linear Opacity option that is used by default for new presets the Length functionality does indeed break for Loading lower than 31 (ooops). This will be fixed in the next update. Maybe also set lower Oiliness, it may help to get less "smudgy" brush.

2. This issue may also be related to Linear vs Non-linear Opacity differences but also as was correctly pointed out the presets that were shipped with Rebelle 7 do differ from Rebelle 6 presets. You can try importing your older presets or tweaking Paint&Mix curves, opacity and other parameters to better suit your needs.

3. Could you please provide comparison screenshots of what you see in R6 vs R7? Also do you see the difference if you import artwork saved in R6 into Rebelle 7?
