Move Tool?

Coming from a background of working with Photoshop and Corel I'm used to having a "Move Tool" layer selection tool. Basically the gist would be: draw an object on a layer, create new layer and draw object and so forth. With the Move Tool I could use it to touch and move any individual object without the need to switch manually between layers. Furthmore I could hold down a control key such as Alt and dublicate the object using the tool. This last feature is immeasurably handy at times.
Being brand new to Rebelle I'm wondering if this program has the same or similar cababiltiy? I've looked all over the UI itself and scanned the manual but I cant find anything specific to this concept. I'm on the Rebelle 7 Pro version.
Any advice appreciated.

Hello,
unfortunately Rebelle does not have an eqivalant, nor is there any workaround I know of better than using the transform tool on the current layer. You can set a hoykey for duplicating a layer as well, but that's about it afaik.
You could post this as a suggestion under ideas and feature requests

Ok, thanks for the info. I kind of figured that but I didn't think it would hurt to ask:)

While Rebelle does not have a Move Tool per se, you can get most of that functionality. First you create objects on individual layers, as before. To find the layer that has the object you are looking for, you ALT-CLICK on the Eye Icon of each layer, this toggles every other "visible" layer off and on with each ALT-click. Click on the layer that has your object and select the TRANSFORM tool. TRANSFORM, without a selection, will select every pixel on that layer (not any empty space). Putting the cursor within that selection will allow you to move that object by dragging. Doing a Copy (Ctrl-C) and Paste (Ctrl-V) will duplicate that object to a new layer. Click on the TRANSFORM tool again will allow you to move the duplicated object.
ALT-CLICK again on the Eye Icon will turn on all the layers that were visible on again (and leave the invisible layers before the ALT-CLICK alone). It sounds a little convoluted, but if you try it a few times it works really well.
If there are multiple objects on a layer, you can make a selection first before clicking on the TRANSFORM tool. HTH

Indeed that does help, Robert. I'll give that a shot! Thank you and Merry Christmas:)

Ok, so maybe this is a dumb question but I'm going to ask anyway: in the shortcuts menu the letter "T" enables the Transform Tool, but also gives an option to use the shortcut "Ctrl+T." I've tried them both and can't spot any different qualities between the two commands. Are they exactly the same or does Ctrl+T offer a different use of the tool I haven't figured out yet?

Not a dumb question at all. Rebelle is very flexible in allowing you to reassign any shortcut key command. In the panel "Preferences > Keyboard > Edit" you will find that Transform is indeed assigned to both "T" and "Ctrl+T" so they both do exactly the same thing. If you want, you could remove one or the other or both and/or reassign them to other key commands. You can also import and export shortcuts (using the top upper right hamberger menu on the Preferences panel). I would recommend that you do that first, before making any shortcut changes (and then also save those changes) to different files.
In the same spirit, note that you can also assign shortcuts to momentary held down keys "Tools (hold)". So for instance you could be painting, hold down the E key (assigned to Erase), and erase an item, then release the E key and continue painting. Cool!

You can select objects on canvas with Ctrl+Shift shortcut. Use shortcut and click on the canvas to select the object, the layer will be selected in Layers panel.
