im having trouble finding information on this. clicked off it seems to make the stroke darker but hovering over it doesnt specify what it actually is doing or is influenced by.

By enabling this function you'll get an opacity mode as it was in Reb6. (old one) They change the opacity mode in Reb7

https://www.escapemotions.com/community/forum/t/41249/what-is-the-non-linear-opacity There's also this in their blog: "Note: Compared to Rebelle 6, the Loading slider does not change the smudginess of the brush stroke. This behavior can be changed in Brush Creator > Stroke > Nonlinear Opacity."

Hmmm... the blog says (just above the other quote): "Increased Loading adds more opacity and impasto volume to the brush, with less Loading, you can get more glazing-type brushes with no impasto." Note the emphasised part and look at the example below (please excuse the hurting colours). This is with 10% loading and opacity multiplier of 10. Upper row is 'Nonlinear' off, Paint - Paint+Mix - Paint+Blend mode. Lower row with 'Nonlinear' on. The red is on a separate layer, so wherever there's red visible, the layer with the blue pattern is transparent. Note how even in 'Paint' mode, the blue is being "pushed around" in the upper row - this happens even at the lowest loading. It can only be avoided by setting opacity multiplier to 1 - at 2 it already starts smudging. I wonder whether this can really be intentional? I mean... until now, I was using 'Paint' mode when I didn't want the underlying paint being affected... yeah i thought paint mode 1 was not supposed to effect anything in the background layer. i find the look of the top row weird and its doing what mine is as well. i would describe the look as a crystalized brush. it doesnt look real. is this how its supposed to be ?

Intentional or not aside for the moment... I've made some comparison charts linear vs. non-linear, showing how brush is affected by underlying paint and by impasto depth in particular. Brush is a slightly modified Oil Flat 'Bright' from the 7.1 set, using 0 oiliness and different amounts of lower loading (red). Underlying strokes (blue) have different impasto depths. Fixed pressure 50% and 100%, Heightmaps on, paper EX30 Lokta Rough. Top red stroke is only for reference with no variations. Hope I haven't goofed up and that this might be helpful to someone. Hello, when you have the Oil brush in "paint" mode with lower opacity (20) and painting over some stroke, you should paint with the lower opacity (20), but the brush stroke has full opacity and smudges the paint below (visible in dreamkeepers post, 3rd image). This is a bug and will be fixed in one of the next versions.
