Having trouble exporting from PS to Rebelle using Escape Motions Connect

I used to be able to do export Photoshop layers to Rebelle. It was a little buggy, but it worked. Today I tried to export a drawing layer using Escape Motions connect frosm Photoshop (2024) as a base for a Rebelle 6 file. It wanted to create a file called Photoshop2em.psd to the location Photoshop Plugin. I clicked save, but all it did was turn off a layer in Photoshop and give me a maximize compatibility notice. There is no drawing layer in my Rebelle file, which is the same size. I'm stumped. I am using a 2022 Apple M1 Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. Thanks for any clues.

Update: Today I reinstalled the Escape Motions Connect Plug-in just to make sure the problem wasn't fixed with an update. Also, I have read the entire support Q & A and watched the video. I know about Rosetta and that's how I ran the plug in until now. I also know about the previous error message, which I always ignored because the layers transferred anyway. What works in the video doesn't work for me, which is odd because I'm doing everything as per the instructions. It opens up a new panel, but there is no drawing layer on it. It even exports corretly from Rebelle 6 (Pro) to PS. It just won't do the other way around, which is what I need. I created a completely new file to make sure neither of mine were corrupted, and that doesn't seem to be the case. Internet searches bring up nothing.

Hi LauraA, Thank you for contacting us. Is Rebelle running when you hit the export button in Photoshop? Could you please send us a short video showing the issue? That could help us understand what might be the problem. Also let us know what PC and tablet you are using. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Here's a link, since I didn't know how to upload it directly. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go ahead and paint it in Photoshop, as it's due tomorrow, but it would help for future illustrations. Thanks!

Oops. I wish there were a way to edit these posts, because I'm making a bit of a mess. Anyway, I'm on a 2022 Apple M1 Pro running Sonoma 14.4.1. The tablet is a Wacom Cintiq 16 using what I believe is the latest driver.

Just following up. Any ideas why the layers aren't transferring?

Hi LauraA, We're still unsure why this happens. Please try to replicate the issue but in the dialog, try to set up the file as PNG, not PSD. Is that possible? Does the layer get transferred to Rebelle?

Well, this is odd! Today I tried exactly the same thing as I had been doing before, that is, transferring a transparent drawing layer to Rebelle from Photoshop. It never even gave me the prompt to save it as a .psd file like it did in the first video. It did transfer the drawing over to Rebelle, but as a merged flat layer, not just the selected transparent layer. So, I copied the transparent layer to a new document in Photoshop, and then tried transferring that over to Rebelle. That transferred the drawing layer, but it still wasn't transparent, and besides, it deleted all the previous Rebelle layers that I worked on yesterday! It's like my Escape motions has lost it's mind. I tried contacting Adobe as well, but the tech had no idea what Escape Motions even was. Here's a brand new video showing this second situation: Second video recording Note: Here's the explanation for why there seems to be a drawing layer in the Rebelle file at the start of the video: Yesterday I found a partial workaround, in that I made a JPEG of the drawing and dropped it into Rebelle. The problem with that is, just as in the new Escape Motions Connect video, it's not transparent. I can paint over it, and then transfer the paint layers to Photoshop and eventually line them up with the transparent drawing layer. It's not exactly handy, but it's better than nothing.

Hi LauraA, If you hit Ctrl+Z (Undo) in Rebelle, do the previous layers get recovered? May I ask you to send me these files so I can test it with Photoshop and Rebelle 6? So one PSD file of the line drawing and one REB file of those layers in Rebelle. Please send to: [email protected] Is NanoPixel turned on in Rebelle?

Thanks, Veronika. I'll send them along. NanoPixel is turned on, and when I press Ctrl + Z, instead of the layers reappearing, the drawing disappears.

It seems updating Photoshop to version 25.7.0 did the trick.

Veronika, I was having problems again, and I finally discovered a big factor--my PS document was in CMYK while my Rebelle document was not color managed. Making a special version of the PS file in RBG seems to have helped. I am still having problems, for instance, exporting all the layers simultaneously back to PS, but this at least solves the problem of trying to export a drawing layer to Rebelle so I can paint on it in watercolor. I'll keep trying to solve the other problems.
