Good question, I've asked it a few times here. Well, it's
been a few years since there was an update.
I don't think it's particularly customer-friendly that there
isn't even any information about Flamepainter and the
other programs. Soemthing that should be a given, without
having to ask.
Well, we don't know how high Flamepainter's sales figures are.
It's certainly not for the average customer who would probably
buy Rebelle.
Nevertheless, I think, and you and others probably agree with me,
that Flamepainter has a lot of potential.
However, there are some problems with using Flamepainter, there
are some inconsistencies in its use and implementation. In my opinion,
these should have been resolved long ago.
It's a shame about the wasted potential

I have been assured in the past on a couple of occassions that they not abandoned FlamePainter and even that they hoped to have an update out for FlamePainter soon, but such assurances become a bit meaningless when literally years go by with nothing. I have also been told that Rebelle is their top priority at the moment, which is extremely disappointing. There's no doubt that Rebelle is amazing in it's own way, but it's not very relevent to the sort of art I primarily want to focus on and it's lacking a couple of features that I find to be essential. Flame painter is very unique and it's unfortunate that there is simply no alternative out there. Corel painter does have some amazing particle brushes but symmetry painting with the particle brushes in Corel Painter does not work properly assuming that you want each segment to look identical.
The other thing that might be slowing down getting any updates is that the framework that Escape Motions uses for their apps has gotten rather buggy which is why there were so many issues with Rebelle 7 that needed fixing. They have said that they want to build their own frame work so that this sort of thing doesn't happen so much, but that will take some time as a smaller company. I wonder if they simply want to delay updating Flame Painter until they have their new framework developed so that the next version of Flame Painter doesn't have tons of bugs like Rebelle 7 has had?

Seeing the new Escape Motions blog that they already have plans for Rebelle 8 is a big slap in the face to us Flame Painter fans that have been waiting years for updates. Please don't abandon Flame Painter!

I agree with everything you are saying! I believe Flame Painter, Amberlight, and Inspirit are definitely unique and advanced applications, and more effort should be put into improving those programs! Rebelle has a lot of great competitors, such as Photoshop, Corel Draw, and several others. I have used EM's other programs more than Rebelle, because of their unique brushes, and use of fractal algorithms to make usnique graphics. Those should be their crowned jewels, not Rebelle. They would be a different market than traditional illustration. Markets like animation, simulations, and even physics and astronomy!

As much as I love Flamepainter, I can't entirely agree with that.
Firstly, I think Rebelle is also unique; for example, it would be very difficult
to find similarly good watercolor simulation software.
Secondly, it's quite obvious that Rebelle generates the most money; otherwise,
there wouldn't be version 8; and secondly, the continued development of natural
media simulation seems to be a profitable business area in the long term.
As much as we love Flamepainter and the like and see potential in them, in my
opinion, it's more of a niche product.
Of course its also sad to me that Flamepainter developement doesnt continue.

It's so sad Escape Motions abandoned Amberlight and Flame Painter. I'm not talented enough to create anything in Rebelle but the other EM creations are good playgrounds.

If they can't feed their engineers on those programs, then they're going to do that. I think a better option would be to make DLC for Rebelle in the future that combines those other options for people that want them.
The odds on them being advanced alone in the future seem extremely low.
