Hello all, I’m not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I wanted to ask here in case there are artists in the community open to this kind of work. I’m seeking a digital painter for refined portrait overpainting, ideally someone who works confidently in Rebelle. I’m looking for an artist to work directly over my portrait photographs and bring them to an elegant painterly finish before final printing on linen. The photographic portrait will already exist as the base image. The photographs will already be retouched before I send them to you for painting. I am not looking for a filter, AI styling, generic “photo painting,” or a portrait repainted from scratch. I’m looking for someone with strong judgment who can work over a prepared photographic base and elevate it into a refined finished piece. John Singer Sargent is the strongest reference point for the level of refinement I’m after, with Lawrence Alma-Tadema also relevant in terms of elegance, surface finish, and painterly sensitivity. I am not looking for literal imitation, but for that level of intelligence, restraint, and taste applied to contemporary portrait work. What matters most is preserving likeness and expression, protecting the defining characteristics of the sitter, and creating a final image that feels elegant, unified, and intentional. Thank you, David [/QUOTE] Hi David, I tried to look you up to find a better understanding of your work. Are you under DavidPalermo.com? (Excellent work if it is you!) if so everything on that website seems to tie in with you. Painterly portraits available on linen and of course your self portrait on the about page. Your self portrait has a very nice painterly effect. If the above is true I would have a couple of questions about the end result you are looking for. Are you after a specific look that is your own and future clients will look for? I say this since you referred to a couple of specific portrait artists. Or, Are you looking for artistic help because of your schedule and do not have the time to do it yourself? I ask this because I could not imagine being between my client and another artist. So in other words does your client get much opportunity for feed back on what the final piece looks like? If not that would make it more straight forward as to all portraits will have the same look and feel to your final approval. I also assume you want to stay away from gobby paints with an artificial light source and shadow effect. This due to your client hanging the print in what could be an ever changing light source. Also giving the archival print a chance to take on the actual linen texture. If you have the time yourself I would highly recommend the tracing system with in Rebelle. It is the same all the way up to R7. Your choice of brushes and size will have everything to do with the final look. IMO selecting any colors other than the original portrait colors may loose the essence of your original portrait work. It sounds like you already have the equipment to do this. I was thinking about updating my old tracing system video. The opportunities are endless in the tracing system and maybe add a few freehand accents. The freehand accents will help define the final piece more as a painting and not a photograph. Thanks, Tom G.
