Color Picking Grayscale

I am not sure how to put this into words, but I am working on a grayscale drawing with various brushes and when I use the color picker to pick up a certain value, the color defaults to a slightly saturated color. I have the color picker set to only pick from the layer I am working on and have used a desaturation filter to remove any unwanted areas with slight color, but when I go to color pick again it always seems to pick up color somehow. Any advice on a setting or could this be a bug? Thanks!

I have just tested grayscale painting with HSV sliders, not touching anything else, but V and it works fine. Picking from layer also gives clean garyscale tone. Is this what are you looking for ?
I have just tested grayscale painting with HSV sliders, not touching anything else, but V and it works fine. I noticed it happened when I would chose a custom brush which was one of the colored pencil brushes. I noticed in the settings there is a Default Color button. It indeed had some color to it. Turned it off and boom. Fixed. Silly me! Thank you for helping me brainstorm!
