1000 x 2000 at 300 dpi is fine but anything larger seems to significantly lag brushes in specific i was using custom oil brushes at 640 size increasing spacing still results in lag cpu usage is only at 30% with this lag and 1 layer ram usage is 19% i7 8700k 64 gbs ram as for performance capped at 120 fps enable v sync off enable viewport optimization is off i had restarted rebelle and the pc issue persists

Ugh, that's frustrating. (Nothing more disruptive to a painting session than brush lag!) I'm on Mac (M1) and don't experience these issues -- I regularly use the bristle brushes (pretty much my only tool these days) on canvases with edges 6,000px or larger (at 300dpi), with brushes at a much bigger size than what you're citing. I've got 64GB in RAM, too, but I think your graphics card may be even more powerful than mine is, which should only help your issue, I'd think. I'm not sure about frame rate on my computer, but I generally have Rebelle open alongside Photoshop, my email, Spotify, and sometimes YouTube (or playing movies from our own server) without issue. Do you find what you have open in tandem affects Rebelle's performance at all? Did you have this issue in previous iterations of Rebelle 8 when using the bristle brushes? Unsure if this could be related to a Mac vs. PC coding thing with how things play out on the backend of the program and process info -- perhaps other PC people will jump in and we can compare systems to try and help pinpoint the problem?

Hi @cheriekitten , Does it lag with the default brushes or your custom ones? If the default brushes work OK, please send us some of the most laggy custom brush presets, we will look into them.
hi @Veronika Escape Motions , yes its lagging with the default brushes as well as my custom brushes. i was seeing some people having issues based on the nvidia driver they had. this is the one im on. i have not updated to the newest one. i also got rebelle to crash the other day. hopefully that sent over properly ❤️ i also agree with joanna that there is lag with the selection tool but does the edit box sensitivity control that ? i havent tested that yet. since jenna mentioned not having issues on an M1 mac, my Master let me borrow his to test if it was having the issues there. the specs are m1 macbook air 16 gb ram mac os tahoe 26.4.1 gpu m1 7 core metal 4 --- all tests are using oils and acrylics round hard brush size 40 --- for this first test performance is set as capped to 120 fps vsync off viewport optimization is on --- brush is lagging 1000 x 2000 at 200 dpi 126% cpu usage 28% gpu usage 2.59 gb ram usage ---- brush is lagging 4000 x 6000 at 200 dpi upon file new artifacts appear and canvas is diagonal can go over the artifacts with a mouse and they disappear canvas is still diagonal 175% cpu usage 17.9% gpu usage 10.39 gb ram usage --- turned viewport optimization off --- less lag compared to before 1000 x 2000 at 200 dpi 124.4 % cpu usage 40% gpu usage 1.68 gb ram usage --- lag is present 4000 x 6000 at 200 dpi 126.5 % cpu usage 65.1 % gpu usage 6.77 gb ram usage the type of lag we are seeing is rubber banding style, takes minutes to catch up with the cursor. took a picture of the file appearing with artificing present from the viewport optimization being on did it old school with a phone because its a pain to get it off the mac lol

In my experience lag is very dependent on bristle density, both Thick and Thin. Both set around 40 there's no lag for me on 7k x 4k canvases and 1000px brush size. Increase densities to 90 and it takes 20 seconds to move a couple of inches.
I also always experience massive lag every time I use the resize tool or every time the file autosaves, like 3 full seconds or more; I do work on large canvases though (A3 size which is big but not that much I think?).

Hi @cheriekitten , One issue could be the Nvidia driver, 595.97 had some issues. They released an update which fixed them. See this forum: https://www.escapemotions.com/community/forum/t/45258/rebelle-8-2-3-screen-distorted-and-flashing-on-startup/ Just out of curiosity, please try to update and let us know if the issue persists. Next step I'd suggest is to reset Rebelle to the default, so we see how it goes on the default installation. Just for reference, I am seeing no lag on my Mac mini M2 16GB RAM with this type of brush.

Hi @cheriekitten , On a similar CPU (8 years old), we see the same behavior. Such a delay is expected when painting a continuous stroke. You can try to turn off RealShader / SoftShadows to see whether it is improved, but from your video, we do not see any unexpected issue.

Hello @waterhorse , I am not sure if you're referring to a white circle around the brush, that is not our cursor, but Windows'. You can disable this option in Windows: "Enable press and hold to perform a right-click equivalent." ...to get rid of that white circle.

Thank you Veronica ! I'am having trouble whit my ( I think Wacom) because in every pencil there is lag when the brush touches the screen ( pencil creating little strokes beside the normale pencil line very odd). I already wrote to Wacom because the Wacom QHD 27 seems there are no longer updates. Could that beiing the case ? No answere from Wacom...about the above.

Hi @cheriekitten , I discussed with Pavol - the lag on the video seems reasonable, oils are the slowest of all tools, using a texture brush might be slower than using bristle brushes, larger brush size is a factor too, plus painting on a zoomed out canvas using long continuous strokes will lag as you try to cover larger areas. I'd suggest trying out this type of CPU yourself during actual painting; you should feel a difference compared to your current CPU.

I see a lag in the brush painting at the first use typically but on subsequent strokes is fine. The stroke path is cashed so that when it renders the paint shape is correct. I have seen this on the M4 mac and also on the windows (10) computer.
