Well, both are in a precarious position.
They have not been officially abandoned by Escape Motions.
At the same time, there haven't been any updates for years.
It looks like both are still being sold, though the price surprises me
for such old, unmaintained software.
I own Flame Painter and actually love it.
But I wouldn’t bet a cent on a future for either of them, and the idea
of getting my hopes up wouldn’t even cross my mind.
In the long run, I simply plan my visual concepts without them.
Its sad, but i can live without them.

Since the developers have clearly abandoned everything but Rebbelle (Inspirit already disappeared from the website), after more than 6 years without any update they might consider releasing the other apps under public domain. I'm not an artist (even not with Rebelle) but I like to play both with Flame Painter and Amberlight and I'd consider adding some feautres to the repository.

Inpirit is still there and you could buy it for 20 Bucks
see pic below and see at the bottom of this website
I think see it as very unlikely that FlamePainter and Amberlight
will be Public Domain.
I consider it more likely that at least Flame Painter will continue to be developed.
Which is something I consider rather unlikely, though—yet still far more likely than
it becoming public domain.
