[SOLVED] Reference image loading sideways

I've tried rotating the source image file in different directions to try and trick Rebelle into loading it properly, but nothing's working. The true top of my image is always located on the left side instead. I can't feasibly sit here and use it like this, I'll get a massive crick in my neck from tilting my head to match the reference image. Is there a fix for this or something? I've removed the image from the reference image window, closed it, and tried readding the image file to the reference image window again, and nothing's changing. It looks like someone had this problem in 2019 or 2018, but it also looks like nothing's been added or done to help fix it? I'm just very confused. If this has been a problem in the past, and it looks like it still is, why hasn't the option to rotate a reference image been added?

Hi @Sellena,
thank you for posting to our Forum!
Rebelle opens the reference image the way it has been saved in your system. In order to solve this inconvenience, please open the image on your system and rotate it to your desired position. Then save.
Then open this image in Rebelle's Reference window. How does it work?
We will consider adding the rotate option to the Reference image panel as well.

Hi @Veronika Escape Motions
Thank you for replying!
Yeah, that doesn't work, that's what I meant by I tried rotating the source image. No matter which direction I save the reference source image on my computer, it always loads in Rebelle's Reference Window with the true top of the image on the left side. The original reference image was taken, and saved, in the correct orientation. It's saved in basically what would be called portrait mode, and without fail always loads in landscape mode. I'm just so confused why this constantly happens.
I'm very very glad a rotate option for the Reference image window will be considered!!! I hope it passes and is implemented quickly! The reference window is sadly unusable for me until then.

Hi @Sellena,
I've tried it on my macOS and it worked well, however on Windows I experienced the same issue. I've forwarded this issue to our programmers and if we find a solution or a workaround, we'll let you know.

Hi @Sellena,
I believe we have fixed the issue with the reference image. Please download the latest Rebelle 3.2 update from your Community account ('My profile' > Purchases) and let me know how it works for you now.

After opening certain images in the Reference image panel, these images were rotated. The issue has been fixed to Rebelle 3.2.1 update.

Hi there Veronika,
I'd just like to say that i'm experiencing the same problem on version 4.1.2
An option to rotate your reference image in the "reference image" window would be really cool.
Hope it will get fixed soon!

I'm now seeing this problem with Rebelle 5. Source image is fine, but reference loads in landscape.

In Rebelle 5 you can flip or rotate the reference images to desired position.

I'm getting this problem (rebbelle 3 and 4). I think its when you rotate the canvas from landscape to portrait save it and the reference image still thinks you are in landscape. A very iritation problem and I can't afford to buy rebelle 5 just to fix it (if it has been fixed). Come on rebelle just add the function to rotate reference image in 3 and 4 :)

seeing the issue in 5.
flipping horizontal and vertical are options; rotate is not.
import the same image to a layer also brings the image in rotated 90 degrees.
At least I can rotate the image on the layer, but that's not working as a reference image.

I have Rebelle 5 and have this same problem in both my layers and my reference. Flipping horiontal, etc. does not work. I am very frustrated with this. I use Adobe Photoshop with the same images and have no problem.

Hi guys,
In Rebelle 5 you can rotate the reference image either with multitouch or using the "R" shortcut.
Please use this workaround until we fix the issue with the exif "Orientation".

I am new to digital art but am teaching myself Rebelle 5. I'm having the same issue when downloading photos and wondered if a workaround had been found. Thanks!

Replying to myself, I meant to ask how does one actually rotate an image? I import pics and then search aimlessly for 20 minutes. Please respond like I am 5 years old. (I mean I'm actually in my 50s but I'm new to the digital art world). thanks!

Hi Liz,
if you have a mulitouch screen (a screen that reacts when you put your fingers onto it - rotates/moves/zooms in), then you can use two fingers for the image orientation. Put two fingers on the image and rotate them on the screen.
If your screen is not a multitouch one, then hold the R shortcut while your cursor is above the image - the cursor will change to a "rotate" cursor and by dragging your mouse or stylus to the right or left, you will rotate the image.

Just letting you know this behaviour is still happening in Rebelle 7.
But the workaround of pressing "R" while the mouse is hovering over the reference image does work :)

Hi there,
I am having this issue of reference images loading at the wrong rotation (Rebelle 7, Windows) and, while you CAN rotate the reference, any guides you put in will display on the canvas at the original rotation, which is not very useful and seems like a bug?
Is there a workaround or a fix for this?
Thank you!
