Just discovered - with the solid heart if you do a clockwise circle all points face inwards, if you do anti clockwise circle (at largest size) they point outwards and make a sort of flower.

Interesting brush. I found that I had to go into the Brush Creator and set the rotation to Follow Trajectory to get the response you mentioned. That setting doesn't seem to come through with the brush presets (a bug?)

Intersting that I was trying to make a heart brush at the same time you were. My first try atmaking a brush but seemed to work okay. I made alarge heart - used acrylic brush in whiite to paint on 512x512 black canvas. Saved & placed shape in star shape on brushed creator. Saved as a new brush preset. Restarted Rebelle. I did have to change its name to heart in the brushes library folder. I kept star setting for lg heart but made a smaller heart and changed setting as are pictured on my screen shot.
I am not sure how to load or down load a brush preset from here, So posting screen shot.

Here are a couple of Drybrush Watercolor brushes that I originally made for Rebelle 2, which have been updated for Rebelle 3. These were originally part of a bunch of brushes that I made available for free on my blog, so I felt here was the right place to distribute these (rather than my Patreon page).

Hi Terrance, thanks for letting me know -- I gave up on Patreon finding a solution and just changed all the previous image-only download links to .ZIP files so that I know you all get something that will work properly. Using an image directly works here and on DeviantArt, but Patreon messes with the code of the PNG.

Ward, I wanted to thank you for the round masking brush you posted. I found it is the brush I have been wish ing for to use with acrylics. It works great as a liner brush plus it makes wonderful comma strokes. The flat brushes also work well for stroke work in acrylics too.

Here's an example of what it does, before and after pics.
It is meant as an eraser, but... who knows what other powers lurk beneath?
Also note it's interesting effect on acrylic, because acrylic is kind of a "bump map" it's really small pixel removals create a grainy/pockmarked texture.

BEHOLD! THE GRUNGE001 brush!
It should be used as an eraser for the effect shown but using it as other tools is something I'm curious about

|How do I download brushes from this site?
Hi Micheal. It's possible to drag and drop the brush images posted here to the tool properties panel where all the brushes are. Or saving them to a folder and using the "Import Brush Preset" option from the menu on the tool properties panel to load them.

Post Date: 2018-09-06 21:21:17
I have tried to drag the pictures to tool properties panel but nothing happens. And I do not see where to download to save them to a folder on my desktop. I only get "Save Image as" when I right click. And by the way, it is your brushes that I am trying to get.
Sorry that I cannot seem to understand how to do this.
Thanks for your reply.

For those disappointed by the selection of pens I have made a couple of calligraphy ones

The second is a 45 degree pen for italics, and the first is the same but for shadow calligraphy. Apologies for wierd order: haven't mastered the input system! At the bottom is an example of output. The shape itself was only a small part of the problem: finding the right "brush" settings was more difficult, so also attached is the best I have managed. Clearly if anyone can improve on this we calligraphers would all be grateful!

rkpahwa,
If you are askking about the Hake brush, I use it in the Watercolor category with a light touch, with either linear or broad cross-hatch strokes, to lay down an even wash with slightly grainy character. More description on my blog: digitalpaintbrush.blogspot.com. Here are the linear marks for the Hake on textured and smooth canvases:
Best wishes,
Bob

I made a palette knife brush, I think there's no need for the developing team to add a new specific brush for that.
it is very thick and i fgured out all the settings to make it as much realistic as possible.

Hi - where are you uploading to? Wondering why you mentioned Google Chrome? I opened two windows and dragged each and every one over (png files). At first I erroneously dragged/dropped right into pane for each brush. But then I put them in the folder - copied to each Brush's Default Folder - they're all there and work. If you want to get them into Rebelle I've dragged and dropped them all. Try again. :-)

Hello all! I'm new here, so I hope I'm doing this right. I made some map brushes in R4 and I'd like to share them with you in case you're making a map for your book, D&D group, etc. Each brush has the max 4 images used. I already shared these brushes using the "Share brush" button in R4 but I'm not sure where it shared them to...can anyone explain? I wasn't sure if I needed to share them here too.
I hope you enjoy!

Hi @Momentinspired,
thanks for sharing your brushes! All brushes shared from the software are posted to the Brush library here:
https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/brushes.php
@snowflame you can use Rebelle 4 brushes in Rebelle 3, but they will not behave the same way as they should since the logic behind the brush creating has changed a bit between these versions. You may try to copy your brushes from Rebelle 4 'Brushes' folder (accessible via the Help menu > Show Library folder > Brushes) and paste them to the 'Brushes' folder of Rebelle 3.

Hello, I have been working to figure out my new and current workflow ... now including many new tools and applications. Rebelle is one of the two that make the cut, but needs much in the way of brushes for my desires. Here are a few that I've been working on that offer me some of what I'm wanting. A Pencil that tilts and shades, a dirty Pen in various states of tune, it's vary responsive to altering the water and other settings, and works well as a watercolor brush. One must pay attention to drying the ink at the right moment...
A few knives, also sensitive to settings ina good way. And a sort of glazing brush, if applied on the same layer it will mush and smear the paint, and used on a layer above a, for instance, milky white glaze can be apllied, in any color you like...

Hi @HEllis,
here's how to insert a brush into this thread:
1. Go to Rebelle menu -> Help -> Show Library Folder... and open the "Brushes" folder
2. Click "Reply to this topic" at the bottom of this webpage
3. Click "Insert/Edit Image" when editing post:

...and open or drag & drop brush file (.png)
With Rebelle 4 release we introduced the online Brushes library where you can post your Rebelle 4 brushes for others to download and use:

Hey everyone,
Am I doing something wrong?
When I download the brush PNGs from this page or drag them directly from the browser into the brush palette, the entire PNG becomes a brush. By this I mean that the small area that actually shows what the brush looks like as a brush stroke or how it behaves becomes part of the brush tip.
Apart from that, the import really only seems to take over the image material and I have to make the settings manually so that the brush tip behaves as shown.
The instructions on the first page are already a few years old, so I guess it should work for Rebelle 3, shouldn't it?
Greetings and thanks

Hi @MrDoodlezz,
the proper knife brush has been created with Rebelle 4 engine, that is why Rebelle 3 is unable to load it properly.
I am able to import it to Rebelle 4 as a correct brush file.
Please note, Rebelle 4 introduces many new settings for the brush creation, that is why some of Rebelle 4 brushes would not be 100% compatible with Rebelle 3. In order to use Rebelle 4 brushes properly, please consider upgrading.

Hi all. I'm looking for a palette knife that breaks paint. Similar to how a traditional knife would when painting mountains, wood grain etc. Anyone know where I can find one or make one? I did experiment with different paper textures and the load value but it didn't work as I thought it might. Doesn't need to be a knife BTW. Any oil/acrylic brush that breaks and streaks paint will work fine.. Thanks

Is there any way to change the brush view so that it only displays a large thumbnail. Like there is in photoshop
In the brush panel only the brush stroke and brush size don't help me much.
Can I somehow enlarge the small thumbnails .
I have a lot of brushes here that I would like to import, but many of them are hard to distinguish or identify by a simple brush stroke (whether because they have a weird texture or are too big to see properly or whatever).

Hi: I'm completely new to Rebelle and have acquired Rebelle 5. I'd be grateful if you could explain how new brushes are installed. I downloaded a zip file from the free assets and followed the drag and drop method described, but nothing extra showed up in the panel. Do I have to unzip the file and install each brush individually, or is there a way of installing the whole set at once? Basically, all I have is watercolor, gouache, Sumi-e, Rebelle 3 original, and spatter. I'm trying to install a set of oil brushes.

Hello, I'm trying to replicate Copic or Alcohol-based markers. Has anyone had any luck with that? Using the Marker brush (a dry media brush) you get persistent overlapped strokes that then need to be blended manually. Using the ink brush (a wet media brush), you get a better performance with blending strokes over time. Finding the balance of water, absorbency, re-wet, and diffusion speed is tricky. There is still a fear of lifting the brush when filling in a space. Too many repetitive strokes adds too much water. Being alcohol based, drying time is different than water. Lowering opacity helps but leads to other issues such as faded color and excessive strokes. Does anyone have any solutions? Thank you.

An example sheet, for reference:

These examples use clipping masks, and most are shaded on separate layers with regular brushes. Scale Faded is shaded with itself.
Scale Line is good for odd shapes, filling gaps, or sorting sharp curves, since the other brushes can get wonky at sharp angles.
Scale Random uses Rebelle's scatter function, and being true random, can result in lines of close-together scales. So (for now) Scale Scatter can be easier to get a freckle-like "random" look.

I just made a bunch of brushes inspired by this thread.
https://www.escapemotions.com/community/forum/t/2804/rebelle-badly-needs-some-dryscumbling-brushes/7
The gist of this thread is that Rebelle brushes weren't textured enough. Some users, wanted a distressed dry brush effect (scumbling?) so you can imitate the PS brushes made by Greg Rutkowski, or the painting style of Richard Schmid.
For some reason I can't share them on escapemotions.com so here is a link to my google drive: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1d6CPp7jB5lEKDDh-k5GZW2C26qNu5cYx/view?usp=drive_link
Unzip it, and copy these brushes into your favorites folder. C:\Users\**your user name**\AppData\Local\Escape Motions\Rebelle 7\Brushes\Favorite\Default Set

Most of these should work with Rebelle 6, because I didn't use the new texture tab very much. Use the "26_brush-marks.png" as your canvas bg.
Also check out the Rebelle 7 grunge brushes and play with the pressure.
I dove into brush creation, and learned a lot. I encourage everyone to spend a weekend making brushes and adjusting settings because you'll have a better understanding of what Rebelle brushes can do, and you'll be able to fine tune brushes the way you like them. The main skills that I'm grateful to understand:
- adjusting the size and opacity curves
- adjusting the grain texture: size, brightness and contrast
- changing grain: tiled, stretched, follow
- adjusting pressure and loading sliders on the fly
- adjusting impasto height on the fly
- adjusting angle: follow trajectory, pen tilt
- adjusting angle jitter and spacing jitter for chaotic brushes
- adding multiple brush shapes
I won't say I fully understand the new brush texture tab (new in Rebelle 7), but experimenting with dual brush and background texture settings is interesting. Pay attention to the blend modes to get different effects. And experiment with the grain size, brightness and contrast.

Hi...
Are there any brushes available that would make painting fur a bit easier? I usually use Photoshop where you basically make brushes for everything. I'd like to at least maybe have brushes that have splayed bristles or something to that effect.
Thanks!

I downloaded a brush set, moved the zip file to canvas, it said assets installed, restarted Rebelle 7 but brushes are not there. I tried import assets with same results. is only way to put the png file in Rebelle brush folder manually?

I created a brush pack inspired by Procreate's charcoal brushes.

I was inspired by this video from Gammatrap. . Many of these brushes have a fake watercolor effect that can quickly create blobs of different values and textures. The more happy accidents the better.
Check them out, they are the 3 most recent brush packs here - https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/brushes.php
Also, here is a cool repeating canvas texture (paper) I've been using.

I'd like to create a palette knife brush that will produce a stroke like this. Is there a way to do this in the current version
I used some knives and did this pretty quickly:

Its definitely not the same, but Its still a cool effect for digital painting. I used a "edge flat" brush, and "edge" brush from my "knives" set.
https://www.escapemotions.com/products/rebelle/brushes.php?filter=&p=1&v=&subfilter=&count=1
some tips: in visual settings, turn off nanopixel, turn impasto depth and gloss all the way up. control your impasto in the brush creator. vary it up as you paint, otherwise the work will end up looking very homogenous. get the knife edge and dab it to get that horizontal impasto jitter look. use dirty brush and paint and mix mode. I'm sure with some experimentation you can get it to look much better than my example.

When you extract the png file, you have only an image. You will lose all the adjustments from the original MA brushes cause they are made for Photoshop and the brush system here works differently, so you will have the shapes but not the original properties. At least that was my experience. If you find the way to make them work, please let me know. I have them too, and I will love to use it in Rebelle.

Hi folks, I've been using various digital art apps for decades now, but have only just started to get to grips with Rebelle and the incredible creative possibilities it offers. I've spent the past few days putting together some ink brushes for various linework / cartooning ideas I'd like to work on, so I thought I'd share them here. I work at 300dpi as standard, so you might want to try altering the size on some of these - or playing around with the "water" setting.

Has anyone managed to make a standard hard round opacity brush in Rebelle? I'd like one that works like the photoshop / CSP equivalent but when I try to re-create the brush in Rebelle it looks as though the flow is all the way down. I'd appreciate some help if anyone has any insights

No man, you can't replicate a 1:1 version of the most iconic brush ever made in Rebelle and this is fact whatever you try.
If you want the look and especially the way it works there are only two choices:
Photoshop or Clip Studio Paint. CSP is 1:1 but much cheaper. ;)
Additionally you can import all your PS brush sets which is cool. For people doing concept art this is a blessing ...

By modifying one of the default Express Oil brushes (the 'Liner'), I think this is pretty much the closest you're going to get - but you'll have to play around with the advanced settings yourself to see if it's any closer to what you're looking for. I'd agree with Kell9 that it's impossible to get an exact replica of the PS/CSP brush you're looking for because the brush/paint engine is completely different in Rebelle. It's designed to simulate real painting, not digital.

Hey, everyone.
A brush-set inspired by some actual brushes by the Italian brand 'Tintoretto' (that I own) can now be purchased.
However, I have received two DMs from two different buyers on Artstation, saying that they had encounter a similar error message after downloading the product:

These brushes were created using Rebelle version 8.1.4, and no one has reported similar issues with my previous brushsets in the past.
So after experimenting a bit, here's what I did in order to install the brushes properly:

Downloaded the ZIP, or RAR file.

Clicked on the file so the 'Maestri di Arte' (I removed the ' in the name) folder appears.

Opened Rebelle, navigated to the 'Help' menu and selected 'Show Library Folder...'.

Opened the 'Brushes' folder, then dragged the downloaded folder into the 'Oil' folder.

Restarted Rebelle. The new brushes were then available in the 'Oils & Acrylic' category.
