Excitement is brewing: Rebelle 3 is just a few days away! Packed with ultra-realistic papers, an enhanced blow tool, a new ‘DropEngine’, an effective ‘Masking Fluid’ layer, Canvas and Image size, and…wait…that’s not all! Read below about other new features and improvements of Rebelle 3 and save the date: Monday, April 30th.

New Filters
Our development team has implemented standard color adjustments settings to Rebelle 3 under a new Filter menu, more specifically:
- Brightness / Contrast, Hue / Saturation / Lightness
- Color Balance, Color Filter, Colorize
- Desaturate, Invert
- Black to Alpha, White to Alpha
The last set of useful filters ‘Black to alpha’ and’ White to alpha’ are very useful when importing a picture with a background. This is especially great for coloring images when you import scanned line art and you would like to remove the background from it.
Support for Pen Rotation
Another feature Rebelle users wished to see is the support for various brush rotations when painting, which is now available via 3 different ways:
- by activating the ‘Follow Brush’ setting - is used also when painting with finger or mouse
- by activating ‘Pen tilt’ - it helps you to create a stroke with the orientation you expect and controls how the stroke is drawn (not all tablet pens support this feature).
- by activating ‘Pen rotation’ - brushstroke orientation depends on a rotation of the pen (as far as we know only Wacom Art Pen has this feature).

Drag & drop files
In Rebelle 3 we implemented a possibility to easily drag & drop files, brushes, papers, color sets or stencils to appropriate panels. Drag & drop .zip assets to the main window with canvas - Rebelle will unzip and sort the assets internally. That means if you drop any image into a panel with brushes in Rebelle 3, it will create a new brush. If you drop the image into the Color Set panel, it will create a new color palette.

Improved Stencils
New settings have been added to the stencils menu to improve the manipulation and let you gain more control over the current stencil on canvas. These are:
- Border and Tile which create a border around the stencil or create a tileable stencil.

- Lock size ratio of the stencil to keep the stencil size proportions.
„Create Stencil from Layer (image)“ - New option in the Stencils panel menu for creating a stencil from an image layer.
Magic Wand
Rebelle 3 will feature a new selection tool that will help you create selections based on the tone and color of the pixels. You can specify the Tolerance, Antialiasing, Contiguous selection, or Use Alpha channel. Tolerance determines the color range of selected pixels, Antialiasing creates a smoother-edged selection, Contiguous selects only adjacent areas using the same colors and Use Alpha determines the alpha channel of selected pixels from the background.

I am currently running v2.1.5 dated 04/15/2018. Is my upgrade to v3 free?
Yes, we will send newsletter today with a link for upgrade.
Hey Peter, that's okay I don't mind supporting the development of such a great product so I just purchased the upgrade. Keep up the amazing work!
Hello, I've purchased Rebelle 2 within last two months, but not on March 1st, well on February 28th. Is it possible to get a free upgrade to Rebelle 3?

*stares at the screen while waiting*
*Obsessively efreshing the browser* :)
Bring it on!
Really exciting to check in with the latest developments, find out there's a new version coming out, then find out I will only have to wait until tomorrow to get it. Here's a question: gouache is basically a thicker, more opaque version of watercolor. The two are often used together. Is this something Rebelle could / should implement? Is the acrylic paint in Rebelle the same thing as gouache to all intents and purposes?
For all intents and purposes, Rebelle's watercolor brush can be used as gouache when you load up the paint and lower the wetness, since the simulation isn't 100% there. The current simulation actually reminds me a little more of gouache.
I would love to see a distinction eventually where watercolor's blending is lighter and more of a combination of a multiplicative and normal pigmented blend, perhaps with more lively and dynamic water simulation since Rebelle 2 can feel a tad stiff compared to the real medium. This would enable useful watercolor behavior using just the brush alone to overload water, spread/blend wetness, lift/bleed paint and wetness by holding the brush to the paper.
I can only say that Rebelle 3 is a huge leap forward for an already amazing program. Congratulations!
Really exciting to see these features supported in Rebelle 3!
Still, can't wait to try out the DropEngine more than anything. I think that by itself deserves a new trailer as impressive as the original Rebelle trailer. It was that video (the splash of visuals and music) that convinced me to try and buy Rebelle.
If I purchase an upgrade from Rebelle 1 to Rebelle 2, will I get the free upgrade to Rebelle 3?
You have not to purchase Rebelle 2, you can upgrade directly from Rebelle 1 to Rebelle 3.
Where do I buy the upgrade for R3?
It will be available world wide from Monday - April 30th on our website.
Is the stencil tool a stencil or a stamp? I think of a stencil as a tool that has a standalone contiguous component with the islands being held in place by a bridge. I think of a stamp as a tool that hold the islands together with some sort of substrate/substratum.
Another way to ask is could I export the stencil, cut it out, islands bridges and all, and and use it in the physical world?
Example of stencil in Rebelle: https://m.youtube.com/watch...
Is it supporting multi layer PSD export these days?.. Is there a way to
drawn a clean straight line? Does it have selections by any chance.. and
can we lock transparency? : ]
Yes, yes, yes and.. yes :)
Thanks a lot for implementing support for PEN TILT! There is an affordable (approx. $50) pen tablet 'Parblo Island A609' from Parblo (https://www.parblo.com/prod... available which supports pen tilt function (tested in Photoshop, Painter, Expresii).
Makes me wish it was available today so we could play with it on weekend all day long
