Rebelle’s Compatibility with Huion Pen Displays

A- | A+

We are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Huion, a renowned brand in the world of graphic tablets. With the power of Rebelle’s realistic watercolors and oils combined with Huion’s high-quality tablets, digital painting has never felt more intuitive or more accessible! In this blog post, we’ll take you through our hands-on experience with Huion devices and why they make such a great match for Rebelle. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, this duo offers creative freedom at an affordable price.

About Huion

Founded in 2011, Huion is an innovator, designer, and manufacturer that devotes itself to digital ink devices and solutions, like pen tablets, pen displays, pen computers, and other relative accessories. To immerse users in drawing and creating, it seeks digital ink solutions and services that deliver high performance at a reasonable price.

Among the many graphic tablet brands out there, Huion has proven to be a great match for Rebelle, and we've been testing and using their devices for quite some time. Recently, we had the opportunity to try out two of their latest models - the brand-new Kamvas 16 (Gen 3), a fresh addition to the market that promises excellent performance and the Kamvas 24, a larger display tablet that has already gained popularity among many Rebelle users.

Huion Kamvas 16 (Gen 3): A Solid Mid-Tier Tablet for Digital Artists

The Kamvas 16 (Gen 3), launched in January 2025, is the latest mid-range drawing tablet from Huion. Priced at US$499, it sits comfortably between the more affordable Kamvas 13 (Gen 3) and the premium Kamvas Pro 19 and Kamvas Pro 27. It’s designed with intermediate artists in mind, offering some impressive upgrades.

Drawing Experience & Pen Performance

One of the biggest highlights is the new PW600L pen—light, battery-free, and powered by Huion’s PenTech 4.0 with an impressive 16,384 pressure levels. That’s twice the sensitivity of most other tablets in this price range. The pen is well-designed, featuring a comfortable silicone grip that provides a secure and ergonomic hold.

The pen includes three customizable side buttons for added functionality, though it does not have an eraser. The firm pen tip remains stable without any unwanted movement and glides effortlessly across the tablet's surface, offering a smooth and precise drawing experience.

The ±60° tilt support elevates the creative process by allowing the pen to mimic natural shading and broad strokes when tilted. This feature enables more expressive and dynamic strokes, making digital art feel even more intuitive and natural. Try it with Rebelle's oils or pencils - this will allow for smooth shading, soft gradients, and textured effects, much like using the side of a traditional brush or pencil.

Display: A Mid-Range Tablet with Pro-Level Sharpness

We were genuinely surprised by the 2.5K QHD resolution (2560 x 1440) on this screen. It’s crisp, detailed, and feels more like a Pro device than a standard model. If you’re upgrading from a 1080p display, you’ll notice the difference. The display comes with a matte glass surface with anti-glare processing great for reducing reflections.

Use as a Pen Display or a Tablet

The device also supports the switch between display and tablet function, giving you the flexibility to use it as a fully functional pen display or as a traditional graphics tablet without a screen. This feature allows for a more versatile workflow, depending on your preference and setup.

Color Accuracy: No Guesswork, Just Vibrant Colors

Another standout feature is color accuracy. Huion includes multiple color gamut modes and a factory calibration report, so you can trust that what you see on screen is exactly what you'll get. Whether you're painting, designing, or editing photos, the colors feel natural and true to life.

Shortcuts & Workflow Boosters

While the pen display doesn’t support multitouch gestures, you can easily assign shortcuts via six programmable buttons and dual dial controllers on a side, which are our favorite additions. The dials come pre-programmed with shortcuts for adjusting brush size, scrolling, and zooming, streamlining the creative process. You can find our favorite settings for Rebelle at the end of this blog post.

Whether you're working in Rebelle or any other creative software, switching tools and making adjustments feels effortless. While the buttons may feel slightly stiff at first, this is likely a matter of personal preference.

Our Final Thoughts on Huion 16 (Gen 3)

The Huion Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) is a great choice for intermediate artists seeking a balance between price and performance. The upgraded PW600L pen offers exceptional pressure sensitivity and tilt support, making for a smooth and intuitive drawing experience. The 2.5K QHD resolution and excellent color accuracy elevate the visual experience, allowing for vibrant, true-to-life colors that are great for any digital art project. With its versatile use as both a pen display and a traditional graphics tablet, it suits a variety of workflows. If you're on a budget, you might want to consider the smaller Kamvas 13 Gen 3, priced at US$249. Overall, the Kamvas 16 (Gen 3) delivers solid features at a mid-range price, making it an excellent option for artists looking to level up their tools without breaking the bank.

Rebelle Artists Love Huion Tablets

Huion has become a favorite among Rebelle artists and it's easy to understand why. The brand's tablets deliver great performance and reliability for creating detailed artwork. Among the various models, the Huion Kamvas 24 stands out as a popular choice. Its features make it a top pick for many artists using Rebelle.

After spending some quality painting time with this model, we can confidently say it's a fantastic option for digital artists or designers who want a high-quality pen display without a hefty price tag. The 23.8-inch 2.5K QHD screen instantly grabs attention, delivering sharp visuals and crisp details that enhance your workflow, whether sketching, painting, or editing. The package includes a practical stand, which is a huge plus.

The display produces rich, vibrant hues that will stay true to the original artwork. The comes with a paper-like texture that improves control and makes long drawing sessions more comfortable. Although, it was something to get used to at first. The 178° wide viewing angle guarantees clear visuals, even when viewing the screen from the side. With a 120% sRGB color gamut, this display delivers vibrant, crystal-clear images. Every detail you create is lively and colorful.

The Huion PW517 pen included with the 24 Series truly stands out. It utilizes Electromagnetic Resonance for power, eliminating the need for the inconvenient charging cables found in earlier models. Additionally, the pen comes with a generous supply of replacement nibs. Huion also sells felt nibs which offer a more stable pen stroke and stronger friction to make the PW517 feel more like a real pen.

With 8,192 pressure levels and tilt support, the included pen feels responsive and natural, allowing for smooth, precise strokes. Overall performance was comparable to higher-end competitors. We wish it would be possible to use any Huion pen with any Huion tablet, but in this case, the PenTech 4.0 (included with Gen 3 Kamvas 16) did not work with this device.

The tablet lacks touch support and built-in shortcut buttons for Rebelle, which would be a great addition. Huion offers four options for 23.8-inch displays, while the tested Kamvas 24 is the basic one. Besides that, they offer Kamvas 24 Plus, Kamvas Pro 24, and Kamvas Pro 24 (4K). You can find a full comparison on Huion´s website.

Feedback from Artists

Below are thoughts from several Rebelle Featured Artists, who have long-term experience with various devices from Kamvas 24 series:

Kamila Stankiewicz on Huion Kamvas Pro 24:
"I bought the Huion Kamvas specifically to work in Rebelle, as I use an iPad for my work with other drawing software. Reported problems with other brands´ drivers made me choose the Huion. From the beginning, the process of painting on the Huion display in Rebelle was totally smooth. I use the Wacom-compatible options in the user preferences without any problems. The big advantage is painting directly on the screen and its size. I can allow myself more expressiveness and wider movements compared to the small iPad screen or the Wacom Intuos tablet I used before. Overall, I think Rebelle and Huion are a great combo."Kamila's Workspace Setup: Rebelle on Huion Kamvas Pro 24 Tablet

Peter Smith on Huion Kamvas Pro 24 (4K):
"The Huion Kamvas Pro 24 has been my main drawing tablet on the PC for the last few years combined with Rebelle as my main digital painting application. The combination works perfectly for me. The Huion is a nice balance of price, performance, and quality. The 4K screen makes Rebelle images look crisp, and the pen is highly responsive. The included Mini Key Dial is a great option to have, although I personally think the setup works even better with the Loupedeck that I use. I have tried and returned several other brands' displays because they were too expensive or in one case too noisy! For me, Huion tablets are almost premium products without the premium price tag and I would highly recommend them."Peter's Workspace Setup: Rebelle on Huion Kamvas Pro 24 (4K) Tablet

How to Set Up Huion Device with Rebelle

Since each tablet brand handles pen pressure, touch, and other settings differently, we suggest the following setup for using Huion with Rebelle:

Tablet Options

When launching Rebelle for the first time, select the Wacom compatible (WinTab) tablet option. If needed, you can adjust the tablet settings later under Edit > Preferences > Tablet. Additionally, we recommend enabling the pen position option for optimal performance.

In the Huion tablet setup, turn off the Ink option if you chose Wacom compatible (WinTab) in Rebelle.

Pressure Sensitivity Curve

Since Huion's stylus has a slightly firmer tip, which actually provides better control, we recommend adjusting the pressure sensitivity in Rebelle towards the Soft setting. This allows for more responsive strokes, reducing the need for excessive pressure when varying brush size or opacity:
Customize Dials and Buttons

Take full advantage of the customizable dials and six buttons in Rebelle for a smoother workflow. The dials work well for adjusting Brush Size and Zoom, making navigation and brush control effortless.

For the six buttons, we recommend the following shortcut setup:

Button 1: Alt – for quick color picking
Button 2: X – for mixing colors, or E for the Eraser if you don’t mix colors often
Button 3: Ctrl – for adjusting brush size (also on the dial) by dragging left or right, or opacity by dragging up or down
Button 4: V – for switching between Paint and Blend modes
Button 5: Space – for easy canvas panning
Button 6: Shift – for enabling the Straight Line tool

If you already work on a Huion device, let us know your thoughts on its compatibility with Rebelle in the comments. We are thrilled to start a partnership with Huion and collaborate on various projects to bring artists more possibilities to execute their creative vision.

Happy Painting!
